This Christmas is very different

 This Christmas is very different, and at first, I felt horrible. Then I kept seeing post after post about others who were late putting up their trees, hadn't started shopping, lost a loved one, didn't feel in the Christmas Spirit, posts from families looking for help this Christmas season, etc. and I realized we weren't alone. 

Prices are higher everywhere, and people are struggling to keep a roof over their heads, keep food on the table, and clothe their families, there is war and turmoil throughout the world, overdoses, suicide, genocide, crime, you name it. I am sure you or someone close to you is having a rough time too.

Our family is falling apart, we have had our share of bumps this year that have turned our world upside down. Have we given up? Most certainly not, we just need to regroup and trudge forward. In the end, we will come out stronger and wiser. 

Life is a never-ending path of feeling hopeless and accomplished, feeling clueless and learning, falling and picking oneself up, going without and helping others, feeling idol, and then growing by leaps and bounds. 

This year my faith has been tested more times than I can count. My heart has been broken in so many ways it felt like I was going to die. People have said many awful things to me and about me, all I can do is keep praying and know that we are not alone, others are struggling just like our family. 

I am thankful to have friends who have been there for me through it all, checking up on me, listening to me, cheering me on, giving me advice, and trying to cheer me up by posting funny memes, words of wisdom, or verses from the Bible, as well as praying for our family. Most of all I am glad I have Jesus because even when I feel most alone I am reminded that he never leaves my side.

So for those who are struggling this year with Christmas or any of the Holidays know you are not alone.

Great Gift Idea for mulitple people

One of the best things we did this year for Christmas that I would like to share with you was buying an assortment of candles. We got a great deal during the candle deal from Yankee Candle. The best part is that they were all shipped to my home. We still do most of our shopping from home. 

We placed them all on the desk in our living room and each of my children's family chose two scents they would like to take home with them as a gift and the rest we would use throughout the year to come. I think this went over well and I am going to do this again.

I did have a little insight into the scents they liked so I chose around those and then ordered some new to us scents. I loved a few that were chosen so we will be ordering those scents again. I know this is late but an early idea for next year for those who have multiple families to gift to.

Paperless Cards done Right

In our home we are getting ready for school to start after Labor Day here. As exciting as that is, it also reminds me of how close the Holidays are, the Birthdays, and that I want to make time for our whole family to get together from time to time. With more and more people using the internet as their main way to communicate, I have found that getting all of my kids together in one place takes time, and flipping of schedules to accommodate some dates.

Holidays for our family is a given but as a mom I love to see my kids and grand children on a much more regular basis. So finding this awesome site Paperless Post, I was able to make a Family Game night date for the whole year and invite my children in advance. The date and time are set and it goes out to them to their emails. So they can mark they will attend or won't attend with a click of a button.

While at Paperless Post I also put together my youngest daughters Birthday Invitation which will go out closer to her birthday. She wanted a sleep over with just her girl friends this year and from what I can remember this is about the age all of the other girls had theirs too, so I found a really nice set up and just put in our information and had a really nice invitation that she loved.

This site is quick and easy to use, when you sign up you get a few coins in order to make some really nice invitations, and don't worry there are plenty of awesome FREE invitations, birthday cards, etc to choose from, it is your choice. You can also add coins in which to make cards by using your credit card.

I am really excited about this new source to use and I know my Earth loving Vegan Daughter will also love this site. She is all about saving the Earth and learns each day about a new way to do it. 52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 3 Chocolate Chip Cookies

52 Weeks of Cookies 
Marksville Style


I have been under the weather so my husband took over and made his favorite cookie which is Chocolate Chip cookies with Milk Chocolate Chips. I tell him all of the time he needs to enter a contest. He really just follows the directions but he must just put in extra love because his cookies always come out different then any other cookie I have had from anyone else even from myself when I make the cookies from the batter he has made. It just doesn't make any sense. 

So here is the recipe he follows from the back of the package. The only difference he says he does is that he pats each cookie down with what we call his big sausage fingers. So maybe that is the secret. 

Our changes are in Bold 

1 cup butter softened we used butter Crisco
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs 
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups of milk chocolate chips

preheat oven to 375

1. Beat butter, granulate sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs continue to beat. 
2. In separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, and salt.
3. add flour mixture to butter mixture until well blended 
4. stir in chocolate chips 
5. drop by teaspoon onto silicone lined cookie sheets  and bake for 10 minutes for a crunchy cookie 8 minutes for chewy cookie.

52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 2 Soft & Chewy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

52 Weeks of Cookies 
Marksville Style


Recipe below is from Just So Tasty 
Notes in Bold are from MarksvilleandMe


                                            Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon ,to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter ,melted and cooled to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 and 1/4 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 and 1/4 cup chocolate chips , your favorite kind
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts , optional but recommended

 Directions

  1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda & salt. 
  2. In a separate bowl beat together the melted butter and sugars using an electric mixer. Add in the honey, vanilla and egg and continue beating until combined. 
  3. Turn the mixer down to low and beat in the flour mixer until almost combined.
  4. Add in the oats and beat on medium speed until combined. 
  5. Then turn off the mixer and stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the chopped walnuts.
  6. Form the dough into balls of about 1/4 cup . Flatten slightly, set on a plate and cover with clingfilm. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. I found cookies too large for my family so changed them up  and I made them by tablespoon size
  7. When you're ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and place the cookies at least 2 inches apart. 
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until the tops of the cookies look almost set. I baked for 12 minutes
  9. Remove from the oven and dot the tops of the cookies with the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
  10. Allow to cool on the cookie tray for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to continue cooling.


Even with using Just So Tasty's tips and following directions my cookies were chewy but still fell apart easily so I am still looking for the perfect cookie for our family.

52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 1 Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Chip Cookies

Marksville Style




Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Chip Cookies 

Ingredients 
1 cup of butter flavored Crisco 
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
3/4 cup of packed brown sugar 
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 eggs
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of milk chocolate chips I used one whole package of Hershey's chips
1 10oz package of Hershey's Sea Salt Caramel Baking chips or 1-2/3 cups of another seas salt caramel baking chip if you can find them. 

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees
2. Beat Butter, granulated, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Add eggs, beat well. In a separate bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually flour mixture to butter mixture, beating until well blended, then stir in chips.  I scoop out with a a 1/2 tablespoon into balls onto baking sheets
3.Bake for 9 minutes for crunchy cookies and 8 minutes for chewy cookies. My batch made just shy of 6 dozen cookies. 




I hope you enjoyed our first batch of cookies for 2019 and will join us each week as we make a new batch. This cookie took a milk chocolate cookie mix my husband loves and added in Sea Salt Caramel Baking Chips to take it to another level. You can play with the Crisco and change it to butter of course omitting the salt or use unsalted and keep the salt, you can also add nuts if you like.

We will be making or in most cases baking a different cookie each week. Getting Ready for Christmas


Some of my readers may remember that almost 6 years ago my husband fell at work, causing him to be disabled. After workman's comp ran out our funds we had saved went quicker then his disability starting up and we ended up homeless. It was not what we had ever imagined happening. Our family made it through by faith alone. There just is no other way to explain getting through about a year and half of being homeless and then a few months in an apartment from hell to being homeless for a little over a month again before getting the apartment we have now. 

During that time few people would help and those that did I had no way of thanking except to say thank you over and over again. It was a hard time. Several people helped out with gifts, sent cards, reached out on Facebook, and even took the time to come and visit. So this Christmas after two very rough years we are sitting down and have money enough to send out Cards to those who took the time to help a family in need.

Lighting the way



I am so excited when ever I get something like this because they have so many uses. First and foremost for power loss. Great for the kids to use. No worrying about burnt fingers, fire, or wax drips.

This is a really fun item to have on hand for parties, sleepovers, dances, holidays, etc. Great for use in the home or outside weather permitting, works by remote and has many different designs to choose from. It can be set to go slow or fast depending on what you are using it for and will even work with music.

We had a much larger music dome light like this that my girls had a ball with, but I trust them much more with this less expensive one with friends around. My girls are sure to have a good time dancing to music with this in the near future.

Tools4Wisdom Planner

I have a great planner you might like if you need one to finish this year out or if you need one for for the New Year. I like this particular Planner because it has a hard cover and will last up to bring taken here and there. You have a monthly calendar as well as a daily calendar, so you can see at a glance and then by the day when needed.

This is great for busy moms like myself, bloggers like myself, as well as anyone else who likes to keep a running hard copy of their schedule.

There is plenty of space for everything you need from appointments, goals, memories, shopping lists. etc.

The only downside to this planner is that it does not have a spot for phone numbers or addresses. which would be an added bonus and something maybe they will add on in the years to come. Since this is on the large size this is the one I keep at home while I have a smaller planner that I carry with me.

BEESSENTIAL






Most days the only makeup I put on is lip balm. This is my first time ever using any product from Beessential but after using this lip balm in cinnamon & clove I am in love and want to try out more of their products.

I shop at Shop Rite all of the time and have never noticed their product so I am going to make sure that I look extra close next time I am there to see what they have in stock and if I still can't find them I will as customer service.

My lips feel so smooth and this is not drying like I have found some lip balms to be. I know they aren't supposed to make your lips feel dry but some actually have this effect on me. So far Beessential lip balm just makes them feel better.

Christmas Dolls

I know many of you may thing Christmas is far off but these dolls are so darn cute I had to share them with you right away. There are 12 in all no doubles all dressed for the Holidays. Each doll has cute pink shoes and stands 7 inches tall. They do have a ring on them so you can hang them from a tree, gift bag, or use as a key chain which we would never do but they are super cute. The outfits are glued on so the outfits can't be changed but that doesn't stop my daughter and grand daughter from having fun with these little cuties. 

I happen to think these would make a great little package topper for that extra special gift. You could also use these as stocking stuffers or even party favors. It is never to early to put things away for gift giving fun.
