Samsung 5.9 cu. ft. Capacity Samsung Freestanding Electric Range

This post was originally written on September 3, 2020, but for some reason, it never posted, since we use this every day I wanted to share about our experience with it. 


First of all, I have to say how excited we were to come across this range. Recently our old stove had the oven door shatter due to a mishap with a rolling chair so we had visited a few sites and stores looking at ranges to replace it.  No kidding we had it down to two stoves this very one and another by a different brand. 

We are used to glass cooktops so there was nothing really new here except for the 5th burner which keeps food warm (think gravy, veggies, dips, stews, etc). This fifth burner is great for family meals or for the Holidays.  We love the sleek design and the stainless steel accents, which we are totally new to.  

My favorite part is the hidden element. This is what makes the range so easy to keep clean. As a mom with children and grandchildren, we are always making meals, so clean up needs to be easy. The top wipes clean with little effort and upkeep, the inside is super easy as you don't have to clean around a heating element which makes cleaning tedious. 

I also love the controls, they are easy to use, and the light that lets others know that the cooktop is hot is awesome. All of our children and grandchildren know if that light is on the range is hot. A lifesaver for a family who likes to cook together. 



 







The oven is great and fits two small to medium pans on one shelf, my largest pan can only fit one per shelf, which is OK with me since this is the only way I have ever used it. I do wish that it had come with a third rack for utilizing the whole oven such as when baking cookies, pizza, etc. 

I only have two flaws that could be made better with future models and that is the vent under the controls on the range. Cleaning this area can be dangerous as it has sharp areas. I am used to a smooth surface that cleans just a bit easier than this. Maybe a grated area that can be cleaned without fear or laceration. The second is that the stove can not sit flush with the wall because of the plug. I am thinking of a recessed area so that there is room for the plug.

52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 3 Chocolate Chip Cookies

Marksville Style


I have been under the weather so my husband took over and made his favorite cookie which is Chocolate Chip cookies with Milk Chocolate Chips. I tell him all of the time he needs to enter a contest. He really just follows the directions but he must just put in extra love because his cookies always come out different then any other cookie I have had from anyone else even from myself when I make the cookies from the batter he has made. It just doesn't make any sense. 

So here is the recipe he follows from the back of the package. The only difference he says he does is that he pats each cookie down with what we call his big sausage fingers. So maybe that is the secret. 

Our changes are in Bold 

1 cup butter softened we used butter Crisco
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs 
2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups of milk chocolate chips

preheat oven to 375

1. Beat butter, granulate sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla until creamy. Add eggs continue to beat. 
2. In separate bowl mix together flour, baking soda, and salt.
3. add flour mixture to butter mixture until well blended 
4. stir in chocolate chips 
5. drop by teaspoon onto silicone lined cookie sheets  and bake for 10 minutes for a crunchy cookie 8 minutes for chewy cookie.

52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 2 Soft & Chewy Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

52 Weeks of Cookies 
Marksville Style


Recipe below is from Just So Tasty 
Notes in Bold are from MarksvilleandMe


                                            Ingredients

  • 1 and 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 to 1 teaspoon cinnamon ,to taste
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter ,melted and cooled to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 and 1/4 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 and 1/4 cup chocolate chips , your favorite kind
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts , optional but recommended

 Directions

  1. In a large bowl whisk together the flour, cinnamon, baking soda & salt. 
  2. In a separate bowl beat together the melted butter and sugars using an electric mixer. Add in the honey, vanilla and egg and continue beating until combined. 
  3. Turn the mixer down to low and beat in the flour mixer until almost combined.
  4. Add in the oats and beat on medium speed until combined. 
  5. Then turn off the mixer and stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the chopped walnuts.
  6. Form the dough into balls of about 1/4 cup . Flatten slightly, set on a plate and cover with clingfilm. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours. I found cookies too large for my family so changed them up  and I made them by tablespoon size
  7. When you're ready to bake, preheat the oven to 350F degrees. Line your baking sheets with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat and place the cookies at least 2 inches apart. 
  8. Bake for 12-14 minutes until the tops of the cookies look almost set. I baked for 12 minutes
  9. Remove from the oven and dot the tops of the cookies with the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips.
  10. Allow to cool on the cookie tray for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to continue cooling.


Even with using Just So Tasty's tips and following directions my cookies were chewy but still fell apart easily so I am still looking for the perfect cookie for our family.

52 Weeks of Cookies Marksville Style Week 1 Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Chip Cookies

Marksville Style




Milk Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Chip Cookies 

Ingredients 
1 cup of butter flavored Crisco 
3/4 cup of granulated sugar
3/4 cup of packed brown sugar 
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
2 eggs
2-1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon of salt
2 cups of milk chocolate chips I used one whole package of Hershey's chips
1 10oz package of Hershey's Sea Salt Caramel Baking chips or 1-2/3 cups of another seas salt caramel baking chip if you can find them. 

1. Heat oven to 375 degrees
2. Beat Butter, granulated, sugar, brown sugar, and vanilla in large bowl with mixer until creamy. Add eggs, beat well. In a separate bowl stir together flour, baking soda, and salt. Gradually flour mixture to butter mixture, beating until well blended, then stir in chips.  I scoop out with a a 1/2 tablespoon into balls onto baking sheets
3.Bake for 9 minutes for crunchy cookies and 8 minutes for chewy cookies. My batch made just shy of 6 dozen cookies. 




I hope you enjoyed our first batch of cookies for 2019 and will join us each week as we make a new batch. This cookie took a milk chocolate cookie mix my husband loves and added in Sea Salt Caramel Baking Chips to take it to another level. You can play with the Crisco and change it to butter of course omitting the salt or use unsalted and keep the salt, you can also add nuts if you like.

We have decided to do something a little different in 2019. OK a big something since it will take the whole year. We are going to take on making a different cookie each week for a whole year. We will be making or in most cases baking a different cookie each week. We will have the recipe available, pictures during, after, and if they are new or an old favorite to our family, as well as any changes we have made to it to make it our own. You can check back on this very link to see each weeks addition below.

New Utensils and a Giveaway too



I have several sets of utensils and find a use for each and everyone. One of my favorite kinds of utensils are silicone and bamboo, or wooden. This put two of those together in my favorite color red so this goes great with my kitchen items. I love how easily the utensils wash up after use. They are Stain Resistant. I do my dishes by hand but if I ever get a dishwasher I know it will be safe to use since they are also Dishwasher Safe. 

Cooking and Baking are one of my favorite things to do with my children which is why I suppose they can all cook and bake well. None of my kids are starving as long as they can find food to make a meal with.

We love this salad cutter bowl for make your own salad night. The kids pick their own ingredients, then I help with cutting so they can make their very own salad creations. From leafy greens, to fruit salads this bowl has you covered.

Clasier Organic Bamboo Cutting Board

While preparing food it is always a good idea to have a cutting board for a few reasons. First of all it protects your table, or counter from damage, and second it makes for a far easier during clean up time. I like that I can use both sides. I use the second for putting out a cheese spread for get togethers.

This cutting board from Clasier has a ridge so that it will catch juices from meat, fruit, or vegetables. It also comes with 4 bamboo utensils which are great for using with your coated cookware. This cutting board is large at 18"x12"x.06". 

Make sure to wash and dry after use and once a month rub down with oil and let sit for 10-20 minutes, then wipe off to prolong the life of your board. I love that this is made from organic bamboo.

This set is so cute and so me. I often drink tea for my throat or just because, mainly the latter. I enjoy tea very much, I think it comes from my British side. Just seeing this made me giggle with glee. From the size to the pure awesomeness of it. You get your tea pot, infuser, and cup all in one little package. Great for gift giving for sure. 

My favorite part besides its looks is the interchangeable handles. You can change up the little silicone handles between, yellow, red, and blue. We have several French Presses. Once my husband tried french press coffee he fell in love. Not that he won't drink other ways of preparing coffee he just prefers french press. Cooking in the great outdoors



While camping you can cook in the great outdoors on a wood fire but some people prefer using a portable propane tank which can be used with the included attachment.

I was very surprised when opening this to find all of the extras that were included. Love the poached egg dish that was a pleasant extra.

This is a really nice kit to be able to cook with when you are camping. It won't cook for a big family but would be good for one or two people.

I would like to see a set like this for family size camp cooking in the future. This would make a great gift for your favorite camping lover.

Heat Hunter



These gloves are slotted at taking temperatures of 932 which is way hot. I love that they are both cut and heat resistance. I will be using these mainly for gardening because the red and black will really stand out if I should forget them and need to find them in the garden.

We do a vegetable garden usually but our landlord has a pile of dirt, a pile of bricks, and several piles of wood throughout our yard so we haven't been able to start our garden this year.

I have a few more weeks to get planted but I hope he hurries. These glove fit my hands whicn are a medium and even fit my husbands hands which are an xtra large. Most of the time what fits me won't fit him and what fits him is way to big for me but these take both of our hand sizes and fit well.
