Screen Patch Repair Kit

This post may contain affiliate links. Read my disclosure policy here.

We rent a apartment that is very old and most things are really hard to replace. Take for instance our screen door. I think it was handcrafted for this house and if I had to guess was last updated in the 70's. You can take out the mid part of the door, changing out the glass panes for the screen piece. My daughter booty bumped the door to get it open because it sticks in the humidity and did some damage to it. Check out my blog about fixing it here

Before we did that we tried out the above product to see how it would work on just holes. Since we were replacing the whole screen anyways my husband caused a hole so that we could we could give it whirl. As you can see from the close ups there were tiny holes everywhere in the screen where it had rusted through. Like I said it was old.

Anyways we have a hole where just using a piece of the mesh tape on each side was enough to fix it. It is noticeable but it is also a quick fix and much less expensive then replacing a whole screen.

Then we have a much bigger hole here that had to have the whole treatment. The kit comes with a rounded needle so that you can literally sew the screen and then apply tape. As you can see in the second middle photo below that it isn't very neat, that is because everytime we tried to sew it the screen gave way because it was so rusted. Mind you if your screen is not as old or rusted through like ours was this would have looked amazing. After sewing you put a piece of the mesh screent tape on both sides and you are done. Again it is noticeable but less expensive then replacing a whole screen.

We thought this would be great for use on tents or those pop up houses as well. Most of the time you need to get rid of your tent if there is a hole and for safety you do that with the pop up houses as well. Now you can get a little more use out of your products with a quick patch job with this kit from Magzo. Check it out here https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0798N7ZG5.

Screen Door Repair

Our front screen door opens hard when it is humid out. One day my daughter booty bumped it forgetting the screen was in which can be changed out for a glass panel in the colder months and damaged the screen. As you can see from showing you how to repair just a hole on the same screen, you can see this screen had mini holes all over the place when you zoom in on the screen and it had to be replaced either way with the side damage. Check out the repair patch kit here. The video for this repair is here.

This door looks like it was hand crafted so everything had to be done in steps. Since we rent we wanted to be very careful as I don't think we could have found a replacement. My husband was more then a bit nervous doing this as he did not want to ruin it more. As you can see the results were way better then we thought they would be and we are very impressed with this replacement screen from Magzo. It was a large piece and did our screen door and can probably do a large window in our home if need be and a smaller window. For the price and time we spent on this project we saved tons of money.

With this screen door there was no spline so my husband had to take the molding off carefully. It has to be from the 70's at least. Then he tore off the old screen removed the staples that were originally there then layed and measured the new screen. Once he adhered the new screen to the door he was able to replace the molding and finished it up with a fresh coat of paint.

He then placed the screen in the door and it looks better then before. Like I said it came out better then we had hoped. All the anxiety he had over starting this project was unwarranted. My husband was very happy and relieved with the outcome.

Missing Spoons

Apparently having children means replacing silverware over and over again because they just seem to disappear. Personally I think it is when the kids scrape their dishes off and it falls in the trash and they just leave it there instead of fishing it out. Either way we are always on the prowl for silverware, either free, or for sale.

These stainless steel spoons we just received are what my mom and dad called Tablespoons. Our family calls them the Ogre spoons because they are the large spoons we use for serving smaller items at the table and the kind my husband uses to eat his cereal.

I really like the plain look of these spoons because they will go with any decor. We used to have fancy decorated silverware but it just wasn't worth the cost with how often we had to replace them so we learned to use what we had or could find for an affordable price.

Do you deal with missing items you often have to replace?

These stainless steel spoons can be found below.

Organizing Tiny Messes

Having a family means organizing lots of things big and small. My husband used to have a really nice way to store his tools but now that we have moved it is a whole new ball game.

Recently while unpacking. Yes 4 months later we are still making a dent into unpacking and found this bucket of mixed screws, nuts, nails, washers, and other doodads.

Having little totes like this one from Lasten on hand really helps make sense of tiny messes. These storage boxes are also great for use in tiny toy collections, hair beads, jewelry making, etc.

As you can see the after is looking a whole lot more neater and there is plenty of room for more items to be sorted. My husband is happy he doesn't have to dig anymore for what he needs and I am happy not to have to worry about the bucket tipping over and having to clean it up. What is great about this particular one is that you can change the sizes of the areas to accommodate different items.

This Storage box from Lasten can be found below.

Kitchen Cleaning with affresh

One of the very best things about being a blogger is getting to try all sorts of products. I get to try out products from companies like affresh through Crowdtap, then tell my readers all about the products. I have tried out a few of the products from affresh before and have continued to use them because they work so well.

This time I was able to try out the affresh Machine Cleaning Wipes, affresh Stainless Steel Cleaning Spray, and affresh Cooktop Cleaning Wipes. To be honest I was most excited about the affresh Machine Cleaning wipes because I know from experience that cleaning out your front loading washer and keeping it smelling clean can be a problem if you don't stay on top of it.

As a buy mom this tends to happen. Before affresh Machine Cleaning wipes we would use a rag or dirty washcloth to clean out the gunk that was on, under, and around the seals. We were afraid to do damage so we never tried any cleaners, so even though we wiped it clean the smell was still present. Well that was before affresh. Now my seals are clean and smell literally a whole load better.

Next I was about to try out the affresh Cooktop Cleaning wipes which worked out really well. Before you go judging my stove was in storage for a year and a half and had not been cleaned before going into storage. When we first brought it to our new home, my husband and son thought we should just throw it out.

I am a more of a fixer, reuse it before you through it out kind of person so I talked my husband into helping me clean it up. A little oven cleaner made the inside look like new while some scrubbing and wiping cleaned up the outside. The cooktop on the other hand is where most of  the damage was done due to people who were helping us placing things on top of the stove and then others pulling or pushing said things around on top of stove. Well here is it on a normal day after using stove. Then after using the affresh Cleaning wipes. Not awesome but better then it was. For a old stove it looks pretty good and work perfectly.

Last but not least was the affresh Stainless Steel Cleaning Spray which was my second favorite of the samples sent to me. Awesome before and afters of my toaster below. I love that the spray does not drip, or run while trying to clean surfaces. Really good when you are just trying to clean up where everyone's fingerprints are. No more chasing the line of running product and then having to clean the whole surface so it looks good. Love this product.

All in all these products passed our testing and will become apart of our cleaners to keep our kitchen looking clean and shiny for years to come.

Toddler Eating Made Easy

Having taken care of my own children during their toddler years and many others I would have loved to have this product from Axsels Home Ware. This is a placemat and plate all in one. It is made from food grade silicone, BPA free, PVC free, and chemical free.

I love that this sticks to the surface so that learning eaters can eat without having their plate flip over or even better for us caregivers harder for them to pick up and throw. I like to take a wet rag and wipe the spot where this is to be used first seems to give it extra stick.

This set also comes with a soft fork and spoon for no pain eating for your learning child. Nothing more discouraging then a child hurting themselves with a metal fork which causes them to go back to using their hands. This will give them teachable moments without pain.

This would make a great gift for the new mom of a toddler, or anyone who needs a little extra helping hand. Easy clean up by hand or in dishwasher.

The silicone placemat plate can be found at my affiliate link below.

Unleash the Clean Squad on the Toilet

Do you remember my last post about cleaning up your picnic table before and after eating? If not you can see it here. Since then we have found that we love the new spray bottle that uses up every last bit in the bottle. This is awesome and hope to see more cleaners using this idea. We also had to make another trip to pick up more Viva paper towels and Clorox Clean up. Like I said these are our favorite products.

Viva Big Rolls: 40% more Viva per roll* Must include this prominent disclaimer: *Towel area compared to Viva® Regular Roll; Current practice is use of “33% More”
Clorox: 99.9% germ killing strength; It’s specially designed to clean and disinfect a variety of stains on a variety of surfaces. And with Smart Tube Technology®, you can spray every last drop. Bad news for germs, good news for family relations.

My daughter Dorothy loves to help out shopping and couldn't wait to get in some pictures with some of the products.

Our next big spot in our home we #Unleashthecleansquad on is the Bathroom, especially on and around our toilet. We have been living in a motel while we have been looking for a new place to live. With that being said we kind of took over ownership of our room doing all of the cleaning and just trade out the towels and sheets to the maids. It is one less thing they have to do and keeps us up with what we would normally do in our own home.

Now we clean our toilet often but for some reason this toilet moves around a bit (probably for quick jobs when something goes wrong) so it is constantly dirty around the base.

Look at our before and after photos to see for yourself what Clorox Clean-up and Viva Paper Towels can do when you Unleash the Clean Squad.

My main areas I like to keep clean in our home are the Bathroom and the Kitchen. These are the places that Clorox Clean-up and Viva Paper Towels are used most. Unleash the clean squad and see what it can do for your home.

Order fresh groceries online with Walmart and enjoy the same in-store savings with free pickup. Walmart will even load your car! Click here to see if it's available in your area! We do not have this service available in our area yet.

My new favorite fan

Having a fan in our home is a must since we all pretty much need it to sleep. As in if the power goes out we all wake up because the fan stops blowing. It is something I have had since a child as well as my husband. It really is amazing that we found each other and also need some of the same constants in our lives. With having 6 children they also need this fan thing going to sleep, apparently they were passed the "needing a fan blowing on them while they are sleeping gene". Yeah us.

Most of my readers know we are currently homeless since my husband's disability took so long to come in. We hope to be on our feet by spring. God willing. It is just a matter of finding a place in our budget. So when we became homeless one of the first things that were packed were our fans. One we gave away at the first motel we were placed in because someone did not have air conditioning so we let them have it, leaving us with one to share. Since we are in one room we just had it oscillating to hit everyone.

Once we moved to the new motel we continued to use it but from the moving it broke down so we went a few months without one which meant very little restful sleep for my children or myself. I have tried other Ozeri products in the past loving them but when asked to review this fan I jumped on it for the mere fact of saving the precious little money we are given, only caring about having a fan of some sort again.

What I didn't know is that everyone would fall in love with this fan. It came to me in a box within another box. I opened up both with the second being the Ozeri fan box. I then opened it set out all of the pieces. There really aren't that many so don't worry about that. I was taken back at first because I didn't have a screw driver but found that a trusty butter knife more then did the job.

This can be put together with the extra height of the pillar or left without for a shorter fan. We put our pillar in. What I love is that this comes with a remote no more getting up and down to get the fan to blow just right. It also came with batteries an extra plus when you want to use a product right away.

This Ozeri fan has a build it area on top where you can store the remote when not in use. It also has the controls inside of this area for those times when you miss place the said remote (Yes this happens quite a bit). The Ozeri 42 inch fan oscillates a full 180 degrees which covers a bit area of space, covering both the queen and full size beds that are in our motel room. This makes everyone happy as can be sleeping purposes. You can also change the speed settings and mode with the remote or built in controls on the fan for a more personalized wind quality.

Our family gives the Ozeri Ultra 42 inch Wind Fan a thumbs up for ease of putting together and usefulness.

The Ozeri Ultra 42 inch Wind Fan - Adjustable Oscillating Tower Fan with Noise Reduction Technology can be found on Amazon.
