Irena's Vow

This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Quiver Distribution

Read my disclosure policy here

I am so excited to tell my readers about Irena's Vow coming out April 15th and 16th to a theater near you https://www.fathomevents.com/events/irenas-vow/ . I had no idea this movie was coming out till I was contacted. Anyone who knows me, knows I have a big interest in the WWII era to be more specific about what happened to the people who were, being tortured, running, or hiding for their lives, and those who stood up trying to make a difference.

This movie is a true story about a nurse who sees a tragedy and vows that she will save a life when she can. Irena's Vow checks the boxes for suspense, reality, tears, compassion, thrills, dark times, and a will to survive. This time in our history can never be forgotten and each time a movie or book comes out it will tell the future children and adults to never let this happen again. Irena's Vow reminds me of how much a human can endure during hard times.

I have many favorite books and movies about WWII and Irena's Vow has now joined the ranks in a movie that needs to be seen.

About IRENA'S VOW:

IRENA’S VOW is told through the eyes of strong-willed, 19-year-old Irena Gut Opdyke, and represents the triumphs of the human spirit in a time of devastating tragedy. Irena is promoted to housekeeper in the home of a highly respected Nazi officer when she finds out that the Jewish ghetto is about to be liquidated. Determined to help Jewish workers, she decides to shelter them in the safest place she can think of - the basement of the German Major’s house. Over the next two years, Irena used her wit, humor, and courage to hide her friends until the end of the German occupation, concealing them amid countless Nazi parties, a blackmail scheme, and even the birth of a child. Her story is one of the most inspiring of our time.

New Release Tuesday Captain Marvel

*Post sponsored by Best Buy. All opinions are my own.

Today Captain Marvel hits the shelves and with that if you are into collecting or just want a really cool edition check out the Collectible SteelBook which includes custom box art that can only be found at Best Buy

In our family we have always been big Super Hero movie, comic book, and show fans. I know Marvel has been really flooding the screens with their movies lately and we are loving it. Check out The Collectible SteelBook at Best Buy and join in the fun.

My husband really likes the SteelBook format for media like this because the cases are more durable and support a nice artistic design that isn't always found on the standard box form. Below you can see pictures of what you will get in the SteelBook format.

Making Babies

I was recently able to view Making Babies thanks to Huber Bros. Productions so that I could give my honest opinion of the movie. Both my husband and myself are avid movie viewers. We loved them growing up, our first date was at a movie theater, our children grew up going to movie theaters as a family, and us for date nights, we even worked for a movie theater before, we enjoy seeing movies as often as we can, we even quote movie scenes in daily life when they fit the part.

I viewed this movie on my own and I went through a roller coaster of emotions. It could be my age I happen to be 46 going on 47 but I hit happiness, hope, joy, sadness, excitement, and utter amusement to name a few. This movie deals with real issues of struggling to have a baby before your time runs out and making choices with health insurance, finances, dreams, all while family, friends, and everyone in between is giving you advice on how to do it.

There is humor. I didn't find it gut breaking humor but it is there in a sweet way and sometimes strange way at least to me. I encourage those who are struggling to have a baby to watch this movie as well as those who aren't struggling so they know the other side and what their friends, neighbors, and not so good friends might be going through.

Coming from someone who had an easy time having children it really opened my eyes and I hope it will for you too. It isn't always easy to have children. Sometimes it is a struggle from the very beginning, but can be so worth it.

Is it a chick flick? Yes I guess it is, but if you are trying to get pregnant it is also a couples flick, so fellas give it a chance. By the way you would want to miss the funny scenes with guys in it anyways so go along just for that if not for anything else. See ladies I had you covered. wink wink So I hope you enjoy it as much as I did check out the trailer below and let me know what you think.

Distribution Company: Huber Bros. Productions
In Theaters: March 29th
Directed & Written by: Josh Huber
Starring: Eliza Coupe, Steve Howey, Bob Stephenson, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Ed Begley Jr, and
the late Glenne Headly
Running Time: 86 minutes

Katie and John Kelly (Eliza Coupe and Steve Howey) are ready to settle down and have kids but
five years later, all they have to show for their efforts is a mountain of negative pregnancy tests
and an increasingly elaborate home micro-brewing rig, which John hopes will launch his
company.  As they run out of traditional options and their window closing, the couple explores
the daunting world of medical, spiritual, and homeopathic methods to conceive a child. With an
ensemble cast that also includes Bob Stephenson, Elizabeth Rodriguez, Ed Begley Jr., Jon Daly,
and the late Glenne Headly, MAKING BABIES puts a couple through the ringer of modern
infertility treatments and questions whether their marriage will withstand the ultimate test.

14 years and counting

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card and/or received the product/service at a reduced price or for free.

Cutting the cord is easier then you might think. For us it started out as a way to save a big chunk of change per month. After a while we didn't miss it at all. Then came streaming TV, and our lives opened up to not just DVD's but movies, shows, and then most recently to shows that were shown on TV that we can get for free the day after. Not to mention HD Antenna's which bring free broadcasting channels to you in crystal clear form. Except for when there is a storm then you just find another channel. FREE never sounded so good.

Honestly our children's wishlist's went down by a mile when we cut the cord which was money savings we hadn't thought of until we saw the difference in our budget. Sometimes one change can really make a big difference in your life and this is one we are glad we made.

When we moved to our current home we looked at the prices of TV services and they are just too costly and most of the channels we wouldn't even watch. With Google Chromecast Streaming Media Player we are able to watch movies, shows, live TV, YouTube, and even photos streaming on all of our devices. It is simply awesome.

So easy to connect with High-speed wireless connectivity. Built-in 802.11ac Wi-Fi connects to the Internet through your wireless home network (wireless router required and sold separately). Compatible with your existing HDTV. Easily connects to high-definition televisions with HDMI connectivity.

We never do this but now you can. Stream from your phone to TV. Just plug Chromecast into the HDMI port on your TV and to power and stream your favorite entertainment right from your phone with just a tap. Watch shows, listen to playlists, and more. And while streaming, you can still use your phone as you normally do. Works with the streaming apps you know and love.

Enjoy TV shows, movies, videos, songs, games, sports and more from over 2000 apps like Netflix, YouTube, YouTube TV, and HBO NOW. Find more at g.co/chromecast¹

Start streaming with just your voice. Just say what you want to watch from compatible apps and control your TV hands-free, with Chromecast and Google Home working seamlessly together.² Simply say things like“Ok Google, play Stranger Things from Netflix on my living room TV.” ¹

¹ Subscriptions are required to view some content.
² Google Home, Chromecast, and compatible content required to cast to a TV using Google Home.

Web-based services and content require high-speed Internet service. Some services may require a subscription.

With school just starting we try and make sure the kids each have a set so they can listen to their music, movies, shows, etc without bothering anyone else. My husband gave these a whirl before turning them over to me.

I am not an in ear kind of headphone kind of person, they hurt my ears, my ears are delicate. These take a bit of time to get used to because of how they go into your ear, and around your ear but they are workable. They also come with a neat case to keep them safe from harm in between use.

Now to figure out which of my daughters are going to be the proud owners of the FSl Reflex Bluetooth Sport Earbuds.

You can find the FSL Reflex bluetooth earbuds on Amazon.

What FSL has to  say about their product.

Bluetooth connectivity means no wires
Starting today you'll never have to deal with tangled headphone wires, getting caught in headphone wires, or accidentally yanking a headphone out of your ear ever again. Connect easily to your iPhone, iPod, Android smart phone or tablet with the Bluetooth wireless functionality and enjoy hassle-free listening.
Package includes hard case, extra ear tips
Wondering if these bluetooth earbuds will fit your ears? Four different sizes of rubber eartips are included, so whether your ears are large or small you're sure to find a comfortable fit. And once you're done listening, zip all the pieces up in the hard case for safe keeping.

Back to School with Netflix

I waited a bit longer to post my post because my kids didn't start school until after Labor Day so I thought it only fitting to post this for the Northern Part of America to coincide with our first day of school.

MC2CARD

My girls are all into Project Mc2 which started on August 7th having gobbled up all of the episodes and are awaiting more.

What Netflix has to say about Project Mc2
Project Mc² is a fresh take on the typical tween girl show you’re probably familiar with. The series has S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) organically woven throughout the storyline, making it fun and breaking the stereotype that being smart, funny, stylish and capable are mutually exclusive. Project Mc² reflects today’s tweens in a relatable way, giving girls four empowered female leads to look up to.
And the offspring of favorite fairytale characters in Ever After High's new Way Too Wonderland adventure (debuting Aug. 14) empower kids to write their own life stories. Whether Royal or Rebel, your actions, behaviors and choices are your own to make.

What are you favorite back to school movies or shows?
What MarksvilleandMe has been watching lately.

We were really busy in August between personal issues, several deaths in our family as well as a close friends dieing, on top of the regular getting ready for back to school and college stuff.

For us school starts in the morning matter of fact it is now 3:28 AM the morning of. I have a few calls to make after the children get on the bus and then it will probably be a very busy day for both myself and my girls for the first day back.

Along with some of the above suggestions from Netflix, we watched these movies and shows in August. Project Mc2, Spooksville, Hart of Dixie, Z Nation, Bitten, That 70's Show, Supernatural, Richie Rich, Monster Squad, and a whole host of others. We have a big family with lots of shows they like to watch so we divvy it up. Since the kids were out playing most days they only had evenings and mornings to catch up on their shows, but most of the time they put it on watched a few minutes, and were out the door. Only very few did they watch all the way through, but that will change as the weather gets cooler, more days inside, with hot cocoa, snuggled under a blanket, enjoying a movie together as family.

Family is what you make it

Although I like the thought of the Cleavers and the white picket fence, life has taken our family far from that. From grandparents who left this world long before all of my children could meet them to the other set that lives close by but chooses not to be apart of their lives on a regular basis, to families having squabbles and deciding they no longer want their family as their family. Kind of like a buffet. Luckily for my husband and myself we will be married for 25 years this coming October, have had 5 biological children while raising my biological nephew as one of our own from the age of 18 months, as well as including all of the childcare children we have watched as well as our children's friends over the years as part of our family. We always say once you visit Marksville you are family for life.

As my husband and I age we have made it even more important to take time out for family. Of course not we have to juggle our younger children with our older children's schedules as well as making time to spend time with our two grand daughters. On top of that we have a Saint Bernard, Mama cat and a mix of 4 of her kittens from her two litters, as well as my daughters beta fish.

In a few weeks our third child will be graduating and moving on with life, joining her older siblings in the world on her own, but knowing if she ever needs support we will be here for her. Another step toward parenting and being a family, learning to let go.

What MarksvilleandMe has been watching lately.

We have been super busy so we didn't really get to watch many of our shows this month but we do have them in our Que to watch on a rainy or less busy day.

We have been watching Z Nation, Between, Residue, Bates Motel, Hart of Dixie, God's Not Dead, Box Trolls, Super Natural, while waiting for new episodes of Bitten, The 100, Hemlock Grove and many others. I add more shows to my play list then I can go through in a given month but give me a few days of being ill and I will plow right through a bunch.

Some movies and shows we would like to watch soon are Grace and Frankie, Wizard Paws,When Calls the Heart. I would also like to see NetFlix get other movies and shows they don't already have for instance they have Joy Ride 3 but not 2 or the first one, as well as Grimm, and Big Bang Theory.
