Stocking up on Food

Our family believes in stocking on on great deals not only to save money but to stock up for rough times ahead. For us that might mean having enough food so that we can pay for a repair on our vehicle, or for a time between when a job ends and another starts, or worse when money has stopped or come near a stand still and you might need the help of Social Services. 

Some people like Survivalists and Doomsday preppers stock up more with foods that are shelf stable for many years. With Valley Food Storage their products last up to 25 years on the shelf. Some might even be more more but I am basing my evaluation on the Enchilada Beans & Rice which we were able to try. 

All you need to do is bring 5 and 1/2 cups of water to a boil and cook for 10-15 minutes, to provide enough food for 5 servings. Talk about awesome. Great for back packers, campers, or just to have on hand in case of an emergency.

I feel better having a little extra in our home so that I can insure we can get through most rough patches that might come along the way. Stainless Steel Vegetable Steamer

OK so I admit I overcook veggies a lot but I like them mushy, raw, and any where in between. Just with 6 children and a house to run the veggies usually suffer for it. In steps the steamer. I have had a few over the years but this one is really nice because it pretty much fits into all of my pans so I don't have to get out our big steamer when I only need to do a little.

I use my silicone mitts to take the steamer out as it does get very hot, something they could make a little better but other then that I really love this steamer and my family loves the steamers we have because they aren't stuck with eating mushy veggies that have sat in water way too long.

Julienne Peeler & Vegetable Peeler Review

Even though I have been married for 24+ years and a mother for almost the same amount of time, this is my first ever Julienne Peeler. I remember watching cooking shows and saying boy I wish I could do that. I don't have the patience to do it by hand, and in case you didn't catch in my other posts, I am susceptible to cuts so I try to keep away from knives as much as possible. 

Yes I have cut myself with a peeler before and it is no fun. This peeler has two sides so I have to be extra careful, but I love the results so this is one of my kitchen favorites. Julienne has become a new word in our kitchen. 

I love that this peeler can Julienne or just plain peel. It alo has little loops on the sides so you can dig out eyes or stems. This is an all in one peeler, Three times the peeler or rolled into one neat gadget. 

The only thing I can see that would make this better would be a rubber grip to make it non slip while peeler. Even though I don't hang my gadgets this does have a closed loop end which you can hang if that is what you do.

Habanero Salsa by SalsaCrazy Review

Our family just enjoyed some Nachos with cheese and Salsa from Salsa Crazy. It rate 9/10 on the Heat scale. I think I understand where Salsa dancing came from. Although the Salsa was hot it was not so hot that it damaged my mouth or lips, it was a short lived hot, so you can enjoy the heat and chips while not having to worry about long time effects. 

Salsa and Chips is one of go to snacks here in the house. My husband and children enjoy it much more often that I have. Our home usually has Salsa, cheese, and tortilla chips in stock. Would love to see this sold in stores.
